To help you feel more prepared, here are answers to some ofthe most-asked questions about NAYZILAM.
Seizure Clusters & Rescue Medications:
Episodes of increased seizure activity outside of your normal seizure pattern, like having two or more seizures in a 24-hour period, are called seizure clusters or acute repetitive seizures. This can mean having several seizures in a row, or they can be hours apart.
Rescue treatments are different from daily epilepsy medications you already take to manage your epilepsy. NAYZILAM is not meant to be taken daily. Keep taking your daily seizure medication as directed by your healthcare provider and use your prescribed rescue treatment when a breakthrough seizure cluster happens.
No, a rescue medication should NOT be used in place of daily ASMs (antiseizure medications). It will be prescribed in addition to your daily medication and should only be used for seizure clusters.

NAYZILAM® (midazolam) nasal spray, CIV is a prescription medicine used for the short-term treatment of seizure clusters (also known as acute repetitive seizures) in patients 12 years of age and older.
NAYZILAM is a federally controlled substance (CIV) because it contains midazolam that can be abused or lead to dependence. Keep NAYZILAM in a safe place to prevent misuse and abuse. Selling or giving away NAYZILAM may harm others and is against the law. Tell your healthcare provider if you have abused or been dependent on alcohol, prescription drugs, or street drugs.
Midazolam, the active ingredient in NAYZILAM, belongs to a class of medications called benzodiazepines [ben-zoh-dahy-az-uh-peens]. Benzodiazepines, sometimes called "benzos," have been an important treatment option for epilepsy for decades.
Benzos work by slowing down your central nervous system so the nerves in your brain become less sensitive to stimulation. It is thought that this decreased sensitivity is what may make you less likely to have a convulsive seizure.
